1$ DVD Vending Machine

Friday, August 21st, 2009

Those 1$ DVD Machine things at Foodland and Safeway are genius. And by genius I mean smart business. I waited 25 min behind two people scrolling through and reading every single review of every crappy movie so I could rent a movie like Labor Pains.

I rented that last movie Joaquin Pheonix made before he became a rapper. The cinematography looks great. One of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time. Production and editing is on point. Acting is superb. It shits on all the other romantic indie dramas that the festivals seem to be flooded with. I’ve always believed that movies should end better than they start, sounds like a no brainer, but sometimes people do the opposite. This movie had a pretty good ending.

My homies said American Gangster was weak. I think it’s pretty good. It starts off Marty Scorsese, then kind of meanders into New Jack City territory. And by New Jack City I mean naked chicks chopping up drugs in a seedy top floor apartment in Harlem. That ain’t bad. Russell Crowe plays a cop law students trying to crack down on Denzel the smooth talking pimpalicious drug lord. I was entertained. Russ Crowe’s coke head cop partner looks like Fred Armisen in that SNL Muppets bit where he plays the muppet with the sax, fishing hat, and big sun glasses. It’s a good look.
