Narrows Live VideoMonday, June 8th, 2009
I completely slept on the new Narrows Record (Ex-Botch, TAAS, Some Girls, Unbroken, etc too many to mention, these dudes been around). I’m on the damn internet all the time, how does this happen? I feel like Jason Lee in Mallrats when Stan Lee showed up. The new LP, New Distances (released May 12th, 2009) is on Deathwish, and so far what I’ve heard online has been pretty good. Not Botch good, but nothing is gonna top that shit. Dang! Dinosaur Jr: Over It Music VideoMonday, June 8th, 2009The new Dinosaur Jr is doing me right. My summer play list is building nicely. Check out the music video for the first single Over It. Great video, even better song title. Now check out Mike V skating to Dino J’s Freak Scene wayyyyyyyyyyy back in 1989. OG. Tinted Windows on LettermenMonday, June 8th, 2009Matt Homer has been schooling me on the power pop lately. He is a mega Fountains of Wayne Fanboy. I am not. But he recently informed me that the Fountains Bassist formed a super group called the Tinted Windows with… get this… James Iha from Smashing Pumpkins, Bun E. from Cheap Trick, and… *DRUM ROLL* Taylor Hanson??!? Hahrng? Not exactly who I would choose to front the sup-group, but you know it works. That whiny princess who cried when they didn’t win a grammy for mmm-bop or something has been busy… I don’t know, I wish I could tell you, I’m not even gonna google it. But the kid is growns up and you can’t deny that he has chops. Homer described it as “campy pop that gets in your head”. Then he proceeded to sing the hook in the single which ended up sounding nothing like the actual song. Hot damn these cats are pumping out some catchy tunes. It’s great to see James Iha actually show some emotion and Bun E. back pounding the skins. Check the clip above. I especially like when Iha palm mutes. Sick brah. Warning: This song will get in your head for days Jim Darling (Beacon, NY)Sunday, June 7th, 2009
taken from http://woostercollective.com/ Elvis Costello - Get Happy! (Rhino 1980)Saturday, June 6th, 2009
The floor of Matt Homer’s car consists mainly of burnt Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, and Ben Folds cdrs. But, if you sift around you’ll find some tapes. One of those tapes is the Elvis Costello album Get Happy! (1980) The fourth album by The Attractions was originally a two-sided LP with 20 songs (Ryko latered re-released the album with 11 Bonus Tracks). The album title is a reference to Gospel Music, and Get Happy! is all about getting juiced on life. It’s categorized as New Wave, Punk, Two-Tone, and Blue-eyed Soul. Some songs clock in at 1:30 min. Perfect upbeat pop gems executed with perfection. Aala Summer Skate ExtravaganzaThursday, June 4th, 2009
In highschool, my buddies Kealii, Corey, and I started a punk band called Ol’ Charlie’s Demo Tape. We lasted about 2 practices. What was sick was all the songs were all about skateboarding and if I remember correctly they were all the same chords. We would jam in my mom’s living room using the Karaoke Machine as a makeshift PA. I don’t think rehersals were that long, but for some reason Corey would get tired sit Indian-Style and lay the mic on the ground and just scream into. Seems kinda lazy, but not if you witnessed it live. He was amped. Probably cause we fed him diet coke and boxes of corn pops. You still owe me a couple boxes dude!! I had to really beg my mom at Costco. Leo is CoolWednesday, June 3rd, 2009
RVCA Skate Promo Montage from RVCA on Vimeo. I spent most of my day thinking about who is better than who in skateboarding. It’s an endless pointless debate. I used to do this with bands, but then I got bored. Now I am doing it with skateboarding. Go Figure. I assume that people were having a hard time getting a hold of the RVCA Skate Promo so they put it online. It’s ok, more than worth it for the Leo clips. After seeing this today my mind can rest easy. Leo Romero is sitting pretty high a top king shit mountain. His style, pop, shoes, hair, (wild homo) are cool. He likes Heath Kirchart and Bob Dylan. Sticks to himself. I even read an interview where he thought it was whack that RVCA did a collabo with the Cobra Snake guy. Having recently switched over to Toy Machine I think he is growns up and ready to get down to business. There are some bangers in the promo. I can’t wait to see what he does in the Emerica vid, and then the next Toy vid. “Everyday create your history” - Michael Jackson Abe Froman: Sausage King of ChicagoTuesday, June 2nd, 2009Image via Sotheby’s Realty While some of you may know this as A. James Speyer’s treasured Ben Rose home, most of us remember this as Cameron Frye’s home in the movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Located in the Chicago Suburb Highland Park, the house is listed at $2.3 Million. Take an inside look here. You know you want it. Anyone? Anyone?
I wonder if the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT Spider California comes with it?
